Voter’s Highlights – October 24

Pastor again expressed his gratitude for the privilege to serve as our pastor. He reminded us of the ongoing Bible Study, for the Gospel of John, on Wednesday evenings at Immanuel. He attended the District Pastor’s conference in Topeka on Oct. 7-8. He continues to share Pastoral instruction and care for Good Sheperd with Pastor Miller. He is currently providing confirmation instruction for 7th and 8th grade.  He indicated the circuit forum nominated the Rev. William Wingfield as Circuit Visitor for approval at District Convention upcoming June 5-6 in Salina. Doug Schaefer will be the Immanuel – Bethlehem delegate with Bethlehem providing an alternate. 

Mr. Erickson and the teachers were attending the District Educators Conference at Beautiful Savior, in Olathe. The Board of Education shared his notes. Grandparent’s day was celebrated with a full house. A special thankyou to Mrs. Olivia Gaschher and Mrs. Sarah Fenker for assisting with teaching music and leading the children in participation in special events.  An all-school tour is planned to the Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City.  The Poinsettia Fundraiser is planned again with order deadline by Nov. 11, and a reminder about the GSLS Benefit Auction on Saturday Nov. 9 At Venue 36 in Marysville.

The elders reported appreciation for the good working relationship with pastor.  They also shared the Elders concern for the disappointing weekly worship attendance numbers indicating 95 – 90 – 94 for the past three quarters respectively.  They also shared the concern for the lack of regular participation in receiving the gift of Holy Communion by too many of our members. While they are discussing a course of action, he pointed out that this is not just Pastor’s or the Elder’s duty and encouraged us to visit with those inactive members and encourage their worship participation.

 

The Trustees reported that the several issues for the parsonage garage connection are being corrected by the contractor, and a water leak in the Museum building is being resolved.  The trustees were also given permission to look into possibilities for expanding living area in the parsonage basement. The trustees were instructed to make plans to dispose of the barn north east of the parsonage

Elections:  Trustee – Doug Schaefer, Financial Secretary – Wayne Holle, Collectors – Austin Schotte and Darold Beckman

Assistance for areas devastated by the recent hurricanes was discussed and it was decided to send the $2,000 we received for rights for mineral exploration to the LCMS Disaster response fund.

The Lutheran Urban Mission Agency (formerly Good Shepherd Mission in KC) and the Synod Ministry to the Armed Forces acknowledged our gifts for these programs.
